Bay Leaf High School opens with larger enrollment
Regular correspondent reports Bay Leaf High School began term after Christmas with far more pupils than in fall. Miss Futrell delayed by bad weather arrived Tuesday. Christmas activities at Bay Leaf Baptist Church, New Bethel church, and a party at P Hailey’s are noted along with many local visits and marriages in Cary Route 1 and Roxboro.

Barbee Pardoned After Two Years In Prison
Will Barbee who was imprisoned for breaking into L. J. Kirkland’s store received a gubernatorial pardon after serving two years of a three year sentence. His partner Will Evans had a two year sentence. Governor Glenn granted the pardon last Saturday.

Two youths Bound Over On House-Breaking Charge
Saturday morning Pat Lyon and Charlie Sherron appeared before the Mayor on a house-breaking charge. They allegedly broke into Pollard Brothers restaurant on Parrish Street and carried off about three gallons of whiskey. The mayor bound them over to the superior court under bonds of 200 dollars each, which they could not furnish, and they were jailed.

Death of Mrs. L. S. Christian
Mrs. L. S. Christian aged 38 died Saturday night after a illness. She leaves a husband and three children and many relatives. The funeral and burial were held Monday afternoon conducted by Rev. M. Bradshaw of Main Street Methodist Church.

Governor Sets February Hanging for Guthrie
Governor Glenn fixes February 20 as the date for the execution of Major Guthrie, the Durham man convicted in the murder of his wife. Guthrie was sentenced in superior court, appealed to the supreme court, which upheld the lower court, and he now faces hanging here.

Death of Levy McGhee from croup in Durham home
Levy McGhee fourteen months old, child of Mr and Mrs A J McGhee, died at Trinity avenue residence Saturday night. Cause of death croup. Remains were carried to Carpenter on Durham Southern road Monday morning. Funeral and burial held from the old home Monday afternoon.

January Term Court Delays Lead To Postponed Civil Dockets
Durham superior court will hear only some civil cases during the January term as time runs short. Mrs. Octa D. Thomas leads multiple suits against Durham firms for $5,000 each, with postponements moved to the March term after agreements of counsel. The Standard Oil case with Mrs. Lucy Holloway also shifted to March.
