John Robinsons ten big shows drew large crowds in Durham on Thursday with a parade and two performances. The crowd praised the spectacle, noting circuses are similar yet still satisfying, and many expect to attend again when the circus returns.

J T Giddens city market clerk died suddenly at his West Main street home from heart failure at age 75. He had lived in Durham 25 years and served 12 years as city clerk. Funeral was at his home with Maplewood Cemetery burial. Joseph Jenkins, 13, died at Watts hospital from appendicitis after surgery. he was visiting Chatham county relatives when illness struck. His funeral was at Lystra Baptist church.

Raleigh August 18 Governor Glenn appoints J D Murphy of Asheville as judge of the fifteenth district to succeed the late Judge Fred Moore. The appointment takes effect immediately and runs until January 1, subject to Democratic convention. The governor cited strong recommendations for Murphy and noted others considered for the post. Also mentioned are N Underwood hauling brick for a new livery stable foundation on Foster Street between Chapel Hill and Watkins.
