Death of Mrs. Mary A Gilmore in West Durham
Mrs. Mary A Gilmore age 60 died Saturday at 4 30 am at her West Durham home after a general run down. She leaves two sons and three daughters. The remains were taken Sunday afternoon to the family’s old Sanford home for interment with many friends accompanying.

Death of J. G. Tilley at about seventy near Couch's store
After a lingering illness J G Tilley died last Saturday. He was about 70 and had been in feeble health for some time. The funeral was held Sunday afternoon from Pleasant Green church and the remains were buried there. 8 B Burch of the W A Slater Company is now on the Northern markets buying goods for his company.

Mills Hold Employee Barbecue At Durham Cotton Mills
Last Saturday East and West Durham and Pearl cotton mills hosted an all hands entertainment with a barbecue dinner. W. A. and J. Harper Erwin attended to ensure every worker was well cared for, aided by the mill foremen. A pleasant day followed for all attendees.

Aldermen consider health committee and ordinance changes
Last Monday night the aldermen reviewed a health committee plan including creation of a health committee with a Mayor, an alderman, the health officer and two physicians to advise the board. they would inspect meat and milk and set duties for the health officer and align terms with the board of aldermen while repealing a city ordinance. F. R. Warren, longtime Cuba resident, was in town last Friday and Saturday visiting relatives in Person county before returning to his duty with the American Tobacco Co. in Havana. He left Havana on Saturday August 10 and will resume post in a few days.
