Clifton Duncan Road Survey Plots Low Cost Mesa Route
County Surveyor H Ogle Tunis reports completion of the Clifton Duncan Road survey into Duncan with a 4 percent max grade and long straight sections. The road will run on mesas above the river bottom, except between Chilton School House and Duncan, where it crosses Main Street for a steel bridge. A 16 foot roadway with 2 foot ditches and macadam surface is planned, using abundant local material to keep costs low. Voters are urged to support the Gila Bridge project and the through route from New Mexico to northern mining areas at the October 21 election.
