Various advertisements list FOR SALE items including Babbitt metal two residences cedar posts oil heater and Indian Runner ducks. Local notes mention Geo W Williams visiting Duncan from Clifton and many residents moving, traveling or trading land and livestock. The ARIZONIAN notes subscriptions, registrations, and community exchanges with mentions of Dr M D Thomas and Uncle George Phillips.
L. H. Meigs sells his entire property in Duncan totaling about 104 acres with a dwelling and improvements to Mr. Snead of Sierra Blanca Texas. Price is not public though believed to be 400 dollars per acre or higher. Meigs may relocate to El Paso.
W. W. Lynn of Steeplerock buys Buck Brothers interests in the city meat market. Lynn, a former Steep Rock Postmaster, will move his family to Duncan. He has taken charge with Mr. Hogan as meat cutter and plans to offer prime young stock and grow both local and out of town business.
The US guardship Scorpion returning from the Marmora district reports at least 6000 dead after the Aug 14 earthquake. Many villages lie in charred ruins and stench from corpses hampers relief. Survivors suffer as relief boats prepare to aid others daily.
Following a state health conference at the Capitol on August 19, the State Board of Health amended quarantine regulations to include infantile epidemic paralysis as a communicable disease. All children entering Arizona from California will face a fifteen day quarantine and all clothing and personal effects must be fumigated on arrival. County and city health officials will oversee enforcement, and Arizona residents with children visiting California are urged to bring them home promptly to avoid a statewide absolute ban on entry of California children.
C S Darrow the Chicago attorney was found not guilty of bribing a McNamara juror. The jury deliberated thirty four minutes and issued one ballot. After the foreman announced the verdict a crowd surged forward with cheers and handshakes as prosecutors and defense members received congratulations in the courtroom.
Governor Hunt announced that President Taft signed a bill authorizing the Arizona state land commission to select 2000 acres of Fort Grant for the state Industrial School, moving the school from Benson to Fort Grant and enabling future expansion including manual training and possible agricultural industries. The Benson property may later become a school for the deaf, pending legal clearance and legislative action.
In York Arizona Aug 17 a growing Twin Peaks mining camp drives activity with 12 carloads of milling machinery arriving at York station. The Free Gold shaft nears 1000 feet of development and Joseph Fraser captains fund-raising of about 150000 dollars for mill and mine works.
