Mormons leaving Mexico arrive daily at border towns where friends relatives and church groups provide care. This week 500 reached Hachita in 87 wagons with Mesa Thatcher and Franklin taking substantial numbers. Uncertain when they can return to Mexico.
The Republican notes that Arizona may gain a large educated population as teachers migrate. Since June 26 Superintendent Case has registered 46 out of state teachers’ diplomas and he receives about forty inquiry letters daily from prospective movers seeking details on salaries and facilities. If even one in ten decide to move, 1500 people could be added annually.
Tempe Normal School and the University of Arizona collaborate on an agriculture course to be taught at the Normal and aligned with university farming programs. The study will consider high school agriculture courses and adapt them to fit the schools needs. Mesa and Phoenix high schools already plan an agricultural course for next year.
Edibles E. W. Taylor received another carload of ice on Saturday and stores perishable vegetables meats butter and eggs in cold storage. He promotes health by sanitary clean storage and free flies and filth. His motto is Up-to-date Anxious to please and He leads them all.
The five days sale at E W Taylors closed Saturday and was very successful despite a dull season and rising river. Mr Taylor plans to travel to Eastern Markets for fall and winter goods and urges customers to await his new stock before buying.
Dell M. Potter, national organizer of the Ocean to Ocean Highway, recounts a cross country trip in the Los Angeles Times car from Los Angeles to New York City. He praises the journey and urges broad, state-wide organization to secure federal aid for the highway along the Santa Fe trail.
Carl Hayden announces his Democratic bid for Congress in the Arizona primary. He requests placement on the September 10 ballot, declares no authorized campaign funds, and commits to personally accounting for all campaign expenditures from his Phoenix residence in Maricopa County.
Clerk A L Terry reports to the State Board of Equalization an abstract of the 1912 Greenlee county assessment. After widows exemptions and Board reductions, net valuation stands at 10,568,765.52 with total property value at 11,098,503.52 before additional raises by the State Tax Commission.
Saloon advocates circulate a local option petition in Duncan Sheldon and York seeking a vote to change the territory from dry to wet. Rev Rose, superintendent of New Mexico state Sunday School and Endeavor, visited a cousin Mrs Will Foster in Lordsburg and gave a brief call to this office.
The Progressive party national committee seats the Florida lily whites and excludes the Florida and Mississippi negro delegations. Roosevelt is praised as a campaigner, and the platform will adopt a radical faith with warlike zeal. Roosevelt delayed appearance due to scheduling.
Arizona reports 38 state banks and 13 national banks hold total resources of 29,312,624.36 as of June 14 1912 up 3,199,623.68 since September 5 1911. State valuation nears 160 million with building and road work expanding across the state and notable commerce in Clifton and surrounding towns.
Telegram reports the accidental drowning of Edna Polland two years old in an irrigation ditch beside the Black Cannon road near Phoenix. While her mother prepared breakfast, the child wandered away and was found two miles from home lodged against an obstruction. Resuscitation efforts failed.
