Surprise 18th Birthday Honored at Ella Smith Home

A Thursday evening crowd gathered at Miss Ella Smith's south of town home to surprise the 18 year old on her birthday. Games were played and homemade candy prepared by Misses Dick Kartchner Ruby Moyer and Belle Smith served as refreshments.

Her Sixth Birthday Celebrated At Kartchner Home

Last Saturday July 22 marked Miss Della Kartchner sixth birthday at Franklin. Neighbors mothers and Sunday school teacher Mrs Gale joined in the celebration. Children raced for candy and nuts played games enjoyed refreshments and departed at five o clock. Guests included Lorenzo Melvin Kartchner Melva Alvin Dees Nellie Harry Nations Marva Thelma Wilkins Eulah Carl Gale Nettie Grace Lewis George Campbell and others.

Stewart's Bay Dick Beats Red Bird at Franklin Races

A good crowd attended the Franklin race last Saturday where Sherman Stewart's Bay Dick defeated Jim Parks' Red Bird. Johnny McKelvey rode Bay Dick, with Ed McKelvey’s son riding Red Bird. Ray Dick led early while Johnny pulled ahead fifteen feet. More races are planned for Lordsburg on the 5th with fast horses and many Duncan locals expected.

Last of the Triplets Dies in July 1911

The last of three newborn triplets died on July 26 1911 and was buried July 27. The three, two boys and a girl, drew wide notice across the territory as they weighed 24 pounds at birth. Heat and bottle feeding challenged their care and all succumbed. Mrs Gill and Mr Howard mourn with Duncan friends and citizens.

Visit to Twin Peaks Mine by Clifton party

J. F. Fraser of Twin Peaks Mines led a Clifton group to the camp last week. Participants included W. C. Wheatley Clerk of the Board of Supervisors T. B. Hyde of Warren Refining Co El Paso F. J. Payne of Standard Oil Co and Mr Baylor mining engineer. They expressed satisfaction as reflected by the stock taken by the gentlemen.

Local and Personal Mails in Duncan Observes Visitors and Trades

Duncan residents receive visits from Mrs. Harrison from San Simon and Mrs. Hobbs from Lordsburg. Local commerce features fresh Graham Flour, peaches, mirror giveaway, and an ice cream parlor. Notices include house rentals, farm news, a bank trip, a sheriff resignation, a hospital operation, a dance, twinned births, and a community sale event with dates.

Party expedition to Twin Peaks for three days

A party led by Frank Hodges and others including Forest Ranger Powells A Morrison B M Crawford Joe Fraser and Theo Shirley left Saturday for a three day visit to the Twin Peaks property. Reports from Twin Peaks continue with a new discovery a few miles from the property said to match the original find.

The Interstate Commerce Commission ruling ends back haul freight charges, benefiting western merchants. Duncan buyers will pay freight Chicago to Los Angeles only, not Los Angeles to Lordsburg, with tariffs to be filed by October 15.
