Duncan residents enjoy a cool industry day with numerous visits from traders, ranchers, and early spring news. Notables include Hon W. E. Cureton and Col. Bean in town, farms advertised for sale, and multiple reports on local business, real estate, and infrastructure projects.
Postal Savings Bank Postmaster Watters reports the U S Postal department will establish Duncan as a postal savings station. Equipment is ready and deposits can soon be received. The decision rests with the department, not the local post office, and in fourth class offices it brings extra work and red tape without higher pay.
Greenlee County officials, led by Superintendent J. Wiley Aker, press for proposed school legislation and a 60,000 dollar bond issue to build a new county courthouse in Clifton. The county, now two years in existence, highlights its mining towns Clifton and Morenci with strong schools, electricity, water systems, and growing population as it seeks continued progress.
In Phoenix on April 8 the senate passed the recall bill and sent it to the house, expected to reach the governor Wednesday. The house approved the equal suffrage bill 21 to 14, and the senate took it up after hearing women advocates, who were referred to leaders with no delay promised. Governor Hunt signed the juror drawing bill.
The Duncan Pharmacy and the Post Office will occupy new quarters across the street in Watters Hall, the former public school building. Mr. Watters arranges the move as Duncan grows.
A Good Show Abbott and La Wayne performed Monday and Tuesday to a fair sized audience at Hobbs Hall. The act featured hypnotism mind reading and comedy with praise for La Wayne’s hypnotic power and Rossenini the Italian mind reader. From Duncan the troupe goes to Lordsburg for tonight's show.
A $3,000 project will rush a 3.5 mile road from Apache Box to Clear Lake with Wofford Alston of Sheldon in charge. The route will transport ore to the Clear Lake mill, signaling stability in the mining district and the faith of recent major deals attracting mining interests.
Cairo Illinois remains surrounded by floodwater with the levee crest ten feet above the city. Refugees and levee workers are fed by rations at the Elks club, with food moved to the levees by car. Over a quarter million dollars spent fighting the flood. livestock and crops stranded on mounds and scaffolds.
The Los Angeles Examiner Pathfinder party met Duncan valley citizens as they progress from Los Angeles to New York. Mr. Harvey Herrick drives a 30 horsepower Case with Col. Dell M. Potter along for road studies and cost estimates for a proposed Transcontinental highway. The group includes Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Herrick and Mr. and Mrs. Chester Lawrence and will interview governors in fourteen states en route to New York, then return by rail.
