Salt Lake officials and state leaders met to keep Gate-Duchesne Road clear of snow. They aim to maintain access with a gradient of maintenance funds and a potential large snow-fighting crew, noting last winter’s closures on Castle Gate and Uintah routes.
Molly Mayweather died in San taing on November 13 at the home of Dewey Mayweather. She was 33 and survived by her son and daughter. Interment and services were held at Wainlanes with friends in attendance.
Utah turkey shipments to Los Angeles reach a new record with three carloads sent at 45 cents a pound. Utah producers expect ten more carloads for California Christmas demand, with total yearly shipments around 100 car loads and values near $40,000 to $50,000.
Farm Creek school held Educational Week featuring Constitution Rights Day Patriotism Day Democracy day Know your school day and Armistice Day. Each day used group led programs with strong parental attendance and notable results.
A hearing on forming the South Myton irrigation district and on land exclusions and inclusions is scheduled for Saturday at 10 o'clock in the Cheyenne County offices. Water allotment for the proposed district has been completed, with a survey showing 7400 irrigable acres under the district and 8349 acres under the existing canal.
An effort is under way to set Price the slipping point for all the honey product of Utah. Plans call for a warehouse and grading station to be established there, according to the plans of the honey growers.
On November 8 and 9 Dr IL Richards and Miss A L Pritchard of the State Board of Health led a health conference. Forty eight children were examined, twenty eight were new entrants. Pritchard lectured to mothers on child welfare and immunization against smallpox diphtheria and typhoid. A health committee was appointed to carry on the state program.
The P T A met in the hall with president Mrs Arthur Grown in charge. A membership drive funds to be used for iodine tablets hall rent and other expenses was announced. A plan to finish school lavatories and drainage of the yard drew attention. C S Lockhart was named chair of a committee to work with Architect Monson on drainage. The club discussed the reading course and songs were performed by Mr Thompson and Mr Vernon.
Bee inspectors failed to complete cleanup in the Vintah Basin Port Pu chesne district this season and state officials report the work will be carried over to spring. Diseased colonies were found at Setpolné in the Gintah basin and a unit near Mountain Home, with severe foul brood infections. In Cache County some diseased colonies from last spring have been cleaned up and are now in good condition.
Uintah Basin correspondence from Midview reports a stormy period delaying threshing and road work. Local activity includes thresher repairs, home building plans, bridge project, residents traveling to Price and Duchesne, and community events at the DP T A hall amid winter sight of two and a half inches of snow.
Road crews on the Vernal-Manila summit section have paused work for winter after heavy rains delayed progress. Four miles of grading remain to be finished in spring, with eight inches of snow ending operations on November 1. Traffic to Green River and Rock Springs, Wyoming, used the road this year, but winter snows will halt travel until spring.
Arthur Burton secretary and treasurer of the Eastern Utah Transportation firm confirms that Stirling Transportation has been taken over and reorganized. New equipment is planned and a schedule to start soon. Joint depots are arranged for freight at Duchesne Myton Roosevelt and Vernal.
The four weeks ending November 1 saw a moderate movement of sweet clover seed from growers, lagging last year’s pace but similar to two and three years ago. USDA estimates about 45 to 50 percent sold. Prices rose in October into early November with 109 pounds clean seed averaging $5.16 across 15 Minnesota and Dakota districts, up from October and well below last year’s $9.20.
Employees on the Moffat railroad threaten a strike amid pay disputes with management. They argue Denver entrants earn more than their road peers while employers cite equal or higher wages compared with Rock Island Union Pacific and others. Negotiations anticipated after the Moffat tunnel completion.
Farm Greek and Stockmore Schools celebrated Armistice Day November 11 with a play suitable to the occasion and a lively dance. The event provided a pleasant evening enjoyed by all attendees.
The American Legion Auxiliary and the school organized Armistice Day events with flag placements 25 feet apart on principal streets. A daytime program featured a school orchestra, patriotic talks, a Belgium and France wartime tribute, and a final Armistice period. An evening banquet and dance followed with red white and blue themes and student helpers.
Members of Witbeck Post No 11 American Legion Vernal elected William Stringham as post commander and Dallas H Young as adjutant. Other officers named included Sterling Collett as vice commander George Goodrich as chaplain Ray Conge sergeant at arms Lloyd Shimmin historian and George Cahoon Uomer E Rist Sean Christensen John Stagg Vern McCarrel W B Wallis. Armistice Day ceremonies featured past members and auxiliary guests watching The New Commandment film about Red Cross front activities.
