In a ten day Duchesne district court case Aute loid Shearime Corral company sued Pat Hansen for trespass on lands claimed through leases on South Myton beach. The jury found no cause for action, noting leases were obtained unlawfully or via agents without clear authority, leaving land claims unproven and rights to water holes disputed. Soft Shale Struck in Duchesne Oil Test
Last Friday a Duchesne oil test well reached 3975 feet in lime and shale. The formation caved at 4014 feet prompting a six inch casing and cement shut off. A casing string was lowered from Craig Colorado, cement set in five days, then water at 2400 feet would be pumped out as operations resume.

Bids Opened For Road West Of Roosevelt Contract
Bids for a 6.02 mile federal aid highway from Roosevelt to Fort Duchesne will be opened by the state road commission on Monday May 7. Chief Engineer H S Kerr notes the project is mainly earthwork with Ward dugway excavation about 70000 cubic yards to create a straight highway replacing the current circuitous route.

The county board of education met at Duchesne with all members present. A committee from Ioka urged a new school building while no action was taken. Bid from J. L. Sweat was accepted. A junior high for district 5 was approved linking Talmage and several towns, with the likely site near Mt. Emmons. A drainage plan was assigned to Superintendent Paxton and President Lockhart. The meeting adjourned to Mt. Emmons for May 15 at 3:30.

Duchesne School Holds Annual Field Day and May Dance
Duchesne Junior High showcased student work in decorated rooms and halls while field events attracted many participants. Frank Casper won the marble championship. Lowell Clement led in high jump and mile events. Mabel Mickelson won girls archery. Grace White claimed the Hopscotch title. The May Day Dance by the American Legion Duchesne Post No 33 drew strong attendance and a sizable door take supporting Legion and Auxiliary buildings.
