Prof. J. C. Hogenson and LeRoy C. Funk tour farms in Du Feheane County to study alfalfa yields. They warn old fields and weed competition reduce hay, suggest reseeding after plowing under weak stands, and recommend manure on shallow or waterlogged soil. A half and half mix of field peas and oats can replace alfalfa temporarily.
The five mile road section nine and a half miles west of Duchesne has been completed and accepted by the state. K C Wright, representing the state and commission, approved its completion last Thursday. It closes the last unmproved link between Vernal and Salt Lake except a short section in Daniels canyon. Completion expected by August 1.
District road engineer Th A Gillis and Guy Tolenbeck report $200 per mile available from the state for Duchesne Tabby road maintenance this year. Funds will be spent through the year as conditions warrant while inspecting proposed routes for a north side of the Duchesne River connection from Rock Creek to the second bridge where two roads merge.
Major General Malin Craig is credited with reviving the dairy industry as he inspects a Vancouver Washington barracks canteen. He questions whether a regular diet is served, noting the importance of wholesome meals for the men. Continued on Page 5.

The Myton community picnic at Johnson's Grove drew 70 children and 125 attendees for a Sunday School service and program. Henry gave a Resurrection and Ascension lecture while children performed recitations and songs. A vote welcomed another picnic on June 28 at the same spot. Ladies Aid later repeated a threefold entertainment at Ioka Hall to a large audience.
Neola pitchers held Myton to little offense as two grand slams helped provide an 18 to 0 win in the seventh Mutual series game on Neola’s fast diamond. Chas Colorow pitched well for Neola while Myton’s defense faltered and timely hitting eluded the visitors.
Upnaleo beat Midview 9 to 5 in the opening league baseball game Saturday. Eldon Bingham returned from Salt Lake Friday with the team’s equipment as the lineup prepared for next play.
Duchesne defeats Roosevelt 20 to 15 on the Duchesne golf course as two regular players were absent. Individual scores note Vernal and Myton soon in action. next game time not yet set. Duchesne leads after tying Roosevelt two weeks earlier on Roosevelt’s grounds.
A local reader shares a humorous dream visiting heaven where St. Peter denies entry and sends the narrator to hell. At the gates of hell Old Nick quizzes him about his politics, and the narrator admits being a Hoover supporter, receiving a sly jab about economic policy.
The death of Charley Barton was reported from Duchesne on Wednesday morning. He fell ill about ten days ago and was rushed to Price Hospital where surgery for intestinal strangulation was performed. Hernia had caused the intestines to become crossed and peritonitis developed. Further details will be given next week.
Myton news outlines the Odd Fellows organizing a large reservation lodge, Calvert and Waugh plan a new cement building due early next week, and construction shifts as firms move to new quarters. Peter Morgensen leaves for Vernal to establish a second W O W camp, while local clubs schedule Fourth of July events and civic projects proceed including canal, bridge, and hotel additions.
A. Gillis, road engineer of the Eastern District, toured Basin to check road work from Verna to Jensens. He reported five miles of Indian Canyon roads graded and graveling to begin soon, with most work on the south side of the hill. Minor delays expected for oiling Duchesne Myton and Roosevelt routes due to drainage costs needing commission approval.
John W. Carlson of the Uintah Basin Experiment Farm and professors Sorenson and Hogenson urged a seed focused alfalfa program at a Myton meeting. They advised establishing dedicated seed plats, specific hill and row spacing, targeted irrigation, and trial acre plots to prove profitability before expanding. They noted four insects, including weevil, and praised calcium arsenate dusting with a traction duster as a control method. County Agent LeRoy C. Funk oversaw the meeting.
A Duchesne Courier reader sends a note to Judge and George expressing affection for the town and a wish to visit Duchesne again. The Creswell couple left years ago for Potest Missouri where they now reside and are warmly remembered by locals.
Dr Huffman of the Bureau of Animal Industry visited the Basin to study liver fluke. Snail varieties were collected from Altonah and Mt Emmons and sent to Washington for analysis to identify which snails are required in the parasite life cycle.
