Officials warn assessors to use uniform methods for valuing personal property including livestock vehicles merchandise and equipment. Deputy assessors with mercantile experience may assist. The letter emphasizes full and uniform taxation across property classes and sets filing deadlines and penalties under the 1926 act.
In a recent meeting at St Charles, the board of directors completed reappointments as several names including Roosevelt, Jordan, Galloway, Vernal, and Schrady returned to or joined the holdings. The session acknowledged new terms for various officers and discussed governance changes across the organization.
Superintendent W. Paxton reports 1926-27 Duchesne County schools served 2482 students in 23 schools with 80 teachers, about 86 percent enrollment in district, average 51.02 pupils per teacher. Preston G. Peterson of the Utah highway commission travels to Washington to urge the House road committee to oppose Colton and other highway bills. Proposed measures seek a $75 million annual federal match, a possible $150 million contribution, a $50 million uplift for federal highways in forests and Indian lands, and the federal building of links in remote regions upon state request.
The December 15 general average of farm prices at 187 is ten points higher than a year ago and roughly unchanged from November. The Agriculture Department notes modest price gains across most commodities except cotton and the report foresees little change in the January 15 price level versus the prior three months.
Remaining assets of the defunct First National Bank of Myton are offered for sale. Clyde Pike and I Reed, quarter breed Indians, trapped beaver on the west fork of Duchesne on November 20. They were found guilty by a Heber justice, ordered to pay 200 dollars each, and serve 60 days in Wasatch county jail. An appeal was lodged with the district court via Deputy game warden Dave Trump and the pair were taken to Heber for trial.
The Utah Utilities Commission will hear the freight rate adjustment case of Sterling Transportation on January 28 at the capitol in Salt Lake City.
