City hall says taxi driver permits are safe and available through Saturday. All drivers must have a permit, with new permits costing 2.50 after a price cut from last year. Old permits can be exchanged by calling and paying. new drivers require fingerprinting. Last year 135 permits issued for all drivers.
Washington AP The government restored corn to export status after a year off citing a record crop of 3.5 billion bushels. The Agriculture Department will permit 19 million bushels to ship October through December, much to Europe to aid war damaged meat and dairy sectors. Exports expected to rise after January as supplies grow. A corn price support program is drafted to meet legal parity of 90 percent. parity price cited as $1.60 a bushel.
An unnamed source cites forged documents among seized papers claiming Friedman Yellin is an Israeli Army on leave soldier. Reports note possible escape plans to Russia or the Soviet Union with Eastern European consulate papers.

Reports indicate that a ground based radio communications system using low frequency waves could reach miners trapped underground. The human voice reportedly transmitted through rock layers and via metallic structures such as trolley wires, rails, and other installations.
Alabama announces 1949 auto license tags go on sale tomorrow with a deadline of November 15 to avoid penalties. Two tags will be issued per car, prices vary by class from 5 to 18 dollars, plus 50 cents to the probate judge and ad valorem taxes.
