LYNCHERS ESCAPE GEORGIA JUSTICE BY OPEN VERDICT
Vienna Georgia September 30 The coroner's jury returned a death at the hands of parties unknown verdict in the lynching of Lewis Harris a 50 year old Negro whose body with 25 to 30 bullet wounds was found hanging beside the Vienna Fitzgerald highway after he escaped custody and was seized by four carloads of men during a night transport from jail. Sheriff Bob Vinson reported Harris had threatened him with a pistol during capture and that officials sought safety by moving him to Fitzgerald. The inquest was conducted by Justice of the Peace W V Harvard.
