Attorney Is Questioned in Kelly Case in Memphis

Memphis attorney Langford Ramsey surrendered for questioning in the Kelly case. The 12 year old Geraldine Arnold reportedly led officers to a hiding place after Ramsey exchanged coded telegrams with George Kelly while Ramsey was in Gainesville, Texas. Ramsey's brother of Mrs X Trimback was tied to the case through the first wife of Kelly. Police located the suspect’s whereabouts following the girl’s tip.

Ten convicts flee after kidnapping Indiana sheriff

Michigan City Indiana September 27 AP ten convicts escaped from prison armed and at large today. authorities believe they split into three groups with one holding Sheriff Charles Neel of Corydon. A police trap near Chester failed to capture the convicts as investigators plan an inquiry into how the inmates obtained arms and moved across the grounds.

Appeal hinted in trial of Elmore

James Franklin Elmore, former school teacher, was convicted of assault and battery after a prior assault to murder charge. A confession of judgment filed by J. W. Elmore and R. M. Elmore guarantees payment of his $500 fine if he cannot pay. No bond was required as the confession sufficed. Attorneys planned an appeal from the latest conviction. Elmore had been accused of a knife attack on L. A. Deal, Dothan editor, in fall 1931.

Dothan editor L. S. Deal has been selected as Houston County appraiser for the Home Owners Loan Corporation. He will begin once appraisal equipment and methods instructions arrive. J. O. Adams, previously in charge, remains assistant to the state manager and heads the Southeast Alabama District from Dothan. Deal was chosen from numerous applicants.

Auto theft ring broken in Alabama arraignments made

Birmingham authorities and federal officials disclosed a theft ring operating in Alabama and neighboring states. Four of 19 alleged conspirators were arraigned and bond set. Warrants were issued for 15 more Jefferson county residents. Police said the ring stole 50 cars and exported at least 21 to other states.

$73,250 Of Kidnap Money Recovered

The department of justice announced the recovery of $73,250 of the Urschel ransom money buried in a patch near Coleman Texas. Cass Coleman was arrested as the search for the remaining $127,500 continues. The total recovered now reaches $80,000 of the $200,000 paid by Urschel.

Pierre Denis, touring on a long bicycle journey begun April 4 1929 from Montreal, notes a single accident when a pig darted into the road near Mobile Alabama. He claims to have worn out 18 rear tires and five on the front after traveling about 24000 miles.

Jurist of Negro Jury Fame Raked in Liquor Cases

Boston September 27 AP Federal Judge James A Lowell under fire in Congress for his handling of charged liquor cases and a habeas writ for George Crawford a Virginia murder suspect. Congressman Gordon Browning cited complaints by pure food interests from New Jersey over light fines and sentences in the Jamaica ginger shipments cases. Browning said impeachment may follow if judiciary committee finds grounds.

In Montgomery, a federal suit seeks an injunction to stop J. W. and W. A. Rogers, former Rogers Beauty Academy operators, from displaying the NRA Blue Eagle. Firemen spent three hours today extinguishing a pile of burning meat and cottonseed at the Dothan Oil Mill No. 1. Origin of the blaze was not determined. No property was threatened while firefighters stayed on scene until the fire burned out.

Star Witness Abroad Forces Charging Dismissal

Star witness Emmanuel Sidhnes fled to Italy, barred from entry, leaving robbery charges against Arthur Corley and Mamie Lou Corley unpressed. Court learned Sidhnes swore warrants but did not appear to testify. authorities clarified he was the complainant, not the accused. Corleys allegedly robbed Sidhnes and a fruit vendor of $195 and $7 respectively.

Two Hundred Imperiled After River Steamer Collision

In Poughkeepsie New York on September 27 AP reports the Hutson river steamer HRen selner carrying 200 passengers was imperiled after a collision with Swedish freight ship tux enn. Four injured as damage tore a hole in the vessel causing it to sink to a barge and force passengers ashore. The vessel later abandoned voyage to Albany as water poured in and cars fell overboard.

Funeral of Derril Dykes Robinson Buried After Tragic Train Death

The two year old Derril Dykes Robinson was killed when an A C Y L train struck him on tracks near his home between Grimes and Midland City yesterday. The funeral was held at Penile church near Ozark with Rev. J M Baldwin officiating. Burial followed at the church cemetery with Fellows and Forrester in charge. Survived by his parents four brothers and two sisters. Engineer Phil Stovall, formerly of Dothan, said the boy appeared as white paper on the tracks until he could not stop the train.

Man gets one to two years in prison for manufacturing liquor

Fred Baxley pleaded guilty in circuit court before Judge H A Pearce yesterday and drew a sentence of one to two years in the penitentiary for manufacturing liquor. In other proceedings J C Paulk was convicted of petty larceny and fined 25. Dock Newton was acquitted. Dink Brooks, a Negro, was found guilty of larceny and sentenced to one to two years. Three other Negroes indicted with Brooks pleaded earlier. Samuel Crawford, also a Negro, was being tried today for murder in the slaying of Hava Mae Brown.

Attempt to Sell Car Tire Ends in Arrests

An alleged attempt to sell an automobile tire and wheel without owning a vehicle led to the arrest of Tom Danal and Hubert Wilson, two Black men. Police seized the tire and wheel at headquarters as they search for the rightful owner.
