The Vicky Shops in Dothan opens Friday at 9 a m featuring dresses coats skirts blouses sweaters sportswear raincoats handbags nylon hosiery lingerie and plastic rain coats. Manager Mrs Roy Griggs leads the staff with two clerks at 143 North Foster in the old Alabama Theatre building.
Lafayette Street Methodist Church Mews Club elected Glen Wehner as president replacing Johnny McKinney and chose Mac Walden James Baughman and L Cummings as officers. About 35 members attended with guests and a plan to boost membership over the next six months. Adult leaders of Pack Three meet at First Baptist at 7:30 pm with cub parents invited. Bob Weston is cubmaster of the unit sponsoring 48 members. Henry W Arnold of Dothan made the API School of Pharmacy dean's list for the summer quarter. Houston district committee met at Charcoal Steak House to discuss district reorganization more Boy Scout activity and safety programs. Dothan High School band will parade Friday at 4 pm downtown with seventyfive musicians a jroette corps and drum major for the game against Holtville. Lt Loyd Adams USNR of Columbia completed annual training at Memphis Navy Air Station with the Fighting 91 squadron. Adams studies engineering at the University of Alabama and is a Hellcat pilot. training included live ammunition firing.

New York UPI reports United States Rubber Co announces a synthetic rubber tread made with dextrose sugar and three speed-up chemicals. The cold process now yields tires with about 30 percent longer tread life than top natural rubber, at 2500000 to 3000000 pounds produced monthly for trial tires. Sugar speeds production but does not remain in rubber.
