Washington Sept 23 The administration moves to sift prohibition cases in federal courts to decide prosecutions as Postmaster General Farley expects repeal. L J Bugg of Monroeville Ala named senior counsel of the prohibition unit to work under John Hurley in charge of prohibition investigations.
In Tuscaloosa on September 23 Joe White known as the Tuscalooga Bearcat fired on his wife as she left a downtown store. He told police I wish I had shot her multiple times, citing marital troubles. Mrs White was struck by one bullet and was feared to die. White had returned to town yesterday and confronted her before opening fire.
Harvey H. Henderson sues S. H. Kress and Co seeking 5000 dollars for injuries from a box hurled from a second story window. He says the box struck his automobile in an adjacent alley, scattering powder that damaged his eyes and forced glasses.
Pomeroy Ohio AP reports that new federal public works road projects will erode Ohio River islands. Gravel and sand extraction shrink many islands such as Fight Mile Letart Bluffton Blennerhassett and Goose as work expands.
The Dothan Unemployment Bureau will pause wood cutting next week but its office will stay open to take orders for available wood and to furnish workers for jobs. John H Bell, bureau chairman, asks the public to call 37 for orders or labor.
Coy Hatton formerly of Dothan died in Washington Thursday from pneumonia and complications. Funeral set for 2:30 p.m. today in the national capital. Hatton, who grew up in Dothan, moved to Washington about 15 years ago where he owned a mattress factory. He and his wife and children paused in Dothan en route to Mexico about a year ago. He is survived by two brothers Amos and Wesley his mother and several sisters. The family lived on Lafayette street during their time in Dothan.
John Allen Ham 62 died at 8 20 p m at his Headland Route Five home after a brief illness from Brille s fever. Funeral services set for tomorrow at 2 p m from the home with burial in Graceville Florida Dowling Rhodes in charge. Survived by sister Miss Jennie Ham Headland and brothers Allen Ham Jr Headland Patterson Georgia Neal Baltimore Madison Texas.
A hurricane struck Merida at dawn with heavy rains and winds. One death was reported as port traffic stalled at Progreso and a pier at Cozumel was torn up about 200 feet. Several small ships sunk and a person drowned. the Pan American building at Cozumel damaged amid watch for Caribbean vessels. A Havana flight did not arrive.
Governor B M Miller designates November 6 through 12 as American Education Week urging citizens to study Alabama's distressed education system and to plan improvements while parents renew interest in their children's schooling and schools’ conditions are examined from all angles.
The 16 year old son of NC Reeves, a farmer on Dothan Route Seven, kicked sand at a rattlesnake in a field near his home. The snake hissed and struck. Reeves fired his shotgun, killing the five and a half foot reptile with 11 rattles. A. L. Dupree measured the snake.
Wet brewers grains, a beer by product, are proposed as a dairy feed supplement at about 25 pounds per day when combined with hay and grain. A. E. Perkina of the Ohio Experiment Station dairy department notes grains resemble corn silage though lower in dry matter and total digestible nutrients, yet provide roughly four times the digestible protein of silage.
Geneva report says Dr Raoul A Amador Panamanian minister to Paris and president of the 77th session of the League of Nations council escaped injury when a tire blew out and the car overturned. His wife and friends were aboard. the 76th session opened today under Norwegian premier Johan Moewinckel.
In Dothan two officers arrived after residents reported a sick police dog kept neighbors awake by howling. The dog had eaten ground glass from perhaps poison, and officers briefly prepared to shoot but retraced their steps, driving away with the dog still alive though fading, as death loomed.
Retrial of J. F. Elmore, once sentenced for assault to murder in a knife attack on Dothan editor L. S. Deal, will open next week. A large roster of witnesses for both sides has been summoned as the court term begins.
A loan of 40000 dollars authorized by the city council at adjourned session will be used to pay interest on bonds due October 1. The loan will be repaid in four installments of 7500 dollars, with the first payment due December 1 and subsequent payments on the first of each following month.
A request for information about Walter Roberts from Dothan area reached the Joothan Chamber of Commerce. BE M Weatherly secretary said the seeker is Fort Worth Texas resident Miss 17 years old unaffiliated to Roberts.

The death toll in the sleeping sickness epidemic rose to 169 in St Louis as four more deaths were reported today.
Six inmates escaped from the death cell on Geneva county jail’s third floor by prying the cell lock and sawing bars. They fled in a blanket rope, stole a 1929 brown Buick sedan, and departed through the business district as authorities pursued. Indicted for murder are S. C. Sheehan, Jack Curtiss, Walter Sharp, Hugh Gantt, W. W. Newsome, and James McNealy. three faces were charged with first degree murder. Federal warrants await three others for post office robberies in Baker Florida and Ramer Alabama. Sheriff J A Driver slept nearby when the escape occurred between 10 p.m. and 2 a.m. and the alarm found at 6 a.m.
Proponents of the Ashford to Alaga highway report 50 property owners, 43 have signed right of way deeds while seven refuse to sign. Names listed include W C Cain Charlie Monty N C Ingram R M iimore G A Snead C W Vickers and Charlie Bowden. With deeds unsigned the road may remain unpaved and about 200 000 dollars could be redirected to another area. Officials warn deeds must be signed by Wednesday to proceed.
New York Block Exchange announces Newark New Jersey as the site for the new stock exchange. Trading is expected to begin October 2 at the Newark location.

Miss Eulalie er, 21, daughter of a U S L officer in Port au Prince, and William G. Eldredge, Pan American manager, eloped from Port au Prince. The couple landed at Fort Lauderdale for a ceremony and planned a Washington honeymoon before returning to Haiti.
