Club Card Party at Mrs Beall Jr Home

Mrs J F Beall Jr hosted a Wednesday card club gathering at her West Main street extension home. Bridge played at two tables with roses and geraniums as decor. Mrs T W Allen won the prize among players Mrs George Vance Mrs Whit Harris Mrs J L Harris Mrs Press Thornton Mrs Cuff Ellison Mrs Wallace Malone and Mrs Allen. Ten guests attended salads and iced drinks were served. Also noted visits by Miss Wilma Hodges Miss Fiossie Jones and Mrs Heard Saxon. Mrs W H Reid and son Hugh of Pensacola, Fla, spent Wednesday in Dothan.

Council Meets Today to Advance Deficit Plan

City of Do than faces a large shortfall with 812.500 needed by September. An afternoon session was to consider borrowing 12,000 and raising the rest through other measures to cover the deficit. Other items from Monday night were set for discussion this afternoon.

Loans On Cotton Nearly to 3000 in Alabama Farmers

Nearly 43 000 has been disbursed to Houston county farmers during the past week through the 12 cents a pound government loans issued locally by the Alabama Cotton Cooperative Association. Farmers have obtained loans on between 400 and 500 bales since lending began last week, averaging 80 dollars per bale, with days seeing up to 100 bales. Borrowing at 12 cents a pound gives farmers access to a strong price floor, while if the market rises they can sell above the 12 cent mark. some plan to hold cotton awaiting higher prices.

Never Break a Lock on a Chicken Coop Burglary Lesson

Realim Potter, referred to as Negro, was charged with burglary for breaking a lock to steal chickens from H. J. Kirkland in the city’s west side. Police say ten of the twenty missing birds were found under a wash tub at Potter's mother's home, and he admitted the theft.

The board of aldermen adopted a lottery resolution under the municipal supplement relief association to conduct a disguised lottery for unemployment relief. Public hearings are set for next Tuesday on two other measures in the three point plan a city income tax and a business tax.
