Negro Defendant Shot In Courtroom

A Negro defendant arraigned in Lowndes County court for first degree burglary was shot and wounded by the man charged with entry to the home. The assailant, F. F. Debardelaben, 455, was arrested on an assault to murder charge after firing two pistol shots at Clemmons Gresham, 20. Gresham was struck in the finger. the shooter fled but was caught soon after. Court events paused as the venue hosting jury selection drew names of many Negroes. All cases remained continued to later in the week.
