Convict Escape From Road Gang Near Trussville

Earl Stevens, a Jefferson county convict with a road gang near Trussville, escaped at dusk in an automobile driven by his wife. She handed a lunch package to guard G. E. Tarter before driving off as Stevens jumped onto the running board and sped away. A guard fired at the tires but missed. several convicts attempted escapes that night.

The five year old daughter of Mr and Mrs Foster Harden died after an auto crash at Lee and Adams Streets Enterprise Alabama. Her father suffered a broken shoulder and the two other occupants Jess Sullivan and Mr Peacock were bruised. Funeral plans were not set by 3 PM.
