Crew of Burning Boat Rescued Near Buckroe Beach

The crew of the Benjamin Barnes schooner, afire in Chesapeake Bay, was rescued by an oyster boat off Buckroe Beach near Old Point Comfort. An explosion and several minor blasts rocked the vessel as she neared shore. the cause was not known. Captain Foster and one crewman suffered burns.

The Alabama court of appeals ruled pawnbrokers may sell any article lawfully pawned without extra licenses. The ruling overturned a state claim for 260.75 dollars from Levy Loan Co. of Birmingham for licenses and penalties, supported by prior circuit court decisions.

Impersonation case of federal officer in Headland

W L Ingram, claiming Norfolk origin, was arrested by U S Deputy Marshal J W Daughtry in Headland on impersonation of a federal radio commission officer. He faced a $2000 bond after a preliminary hearing before U S Commissioner Beaty B Whiddon. Heard filed the charge, saying Ingram posed as an inspector for radio stations and sought funds for expenses. The pair traveled to Montgomery for the first inspection, where Ingram left after registration.

Shell and Sinclair stations near completion in town

Work on the Shell Petroleum filling station at N. Oates and W. Main nears completion with a few weeks left. Preparations to erect the Sinclair Oil station at N. Oates and W. Troy are moving rapidly. The Shell site should be finished soon, while the Sinclair contract has not yet been awarded. The W. C. Fenn home will be moved to make room, with the residence expected on the new site later this week or early next.

Coffee theft reported at Bay Line depot

The theft of two 50 pound sacks of coffee from a box car at the Bay Line railway depot last night was reported to county officers today. The java, valued at 25 dollars, was being shipped to Mitt Carlisle at the state line.

County Pays Off Last July Senate Election Warrants

Probate Judge H. K. Martin announced warrants from the senatorial election dated July 14 will be paid at the Houston County depository the Dothan Bank and Trust Co starting today. The warrants total about 800 dollars and all preferred registered warrants will be paid in registration order as funds allow.

Blakely Man Dies After Brief Illness

Henry Butler, 52, of Blakely Gr, died at a local hospital yesterday at 1 05 p m after an illness of two weeks. He is survived by his widow, one brother John Butler of Blakely, and two sisters Mrs Joe Hamil and Miss Mattie Butler plus Mrs Clara Butler all of Blakely. Veterans to Enlist for Forestry Work in State

Veterans in the Wiregrans may join the Civilian Conservation Corps forestry program. Applications are available from the Veterans Administration at Birmingham.
