Laborers from Robbins Brothers Circus Are Dismissed From Train
A crowd of 25 laborers attached to the Robbins Brothers Circus reported to Sheriff Willam H Holcombe that they were forcefully removed from the moving circus train about 16 miles north of Mobile Alabama. They showed bruises claimed to be from circus bosses with blackjacks and their feet. The discharged workers said they were given a dollar for a week’s work and shoved from the train. The hungry men and women gathered at the county jail and stayed in a warehouse. They sought action against the circus owners but the train was already out of state. The circus had tightened its tour after two performances in Mobile and is reportedly heading back to Lancaster Missouri for winter quarters.
