Power production in the week showed a slight gain marking the first increase that week since 1929. Compared with last year total kilowatt hours fell 12.3 percent while week-ago figures were down 12.9 percent. Some shoe factories ran full time. textiles remained bright with rising production and prices. steel showed early signs of improvement though operating at about 1 percent capacity. Steel scrap prices firmed with heavy melting steel scrap advancing in Pittsburgh and Youngstown. Analysts linked Myron Taylor’s statements to potential performance gains and forecast a possible 18 percent increase in tonnage by week’s end as the auto industry showed a revival in orders.

Gar Wood triumphed over Kay Don as the jinx kept returning in Detroit. The British speedboat driver fought the Harmsworth Trophy race today against God Wond, but developed medical difficulties and power loss, forcing a stoppage a mile from the end of the second seven mile lap. Wood led the field to win the heat and retain the trophy for another year.

Only One Hunting License Issued in Six Months in Houston County

The probate judge office announced that only one hunting license was issued in six months, to L. P. Melton, for dove season. Several others had licenses before February. With dove season from Sept 1 to Sept 20, five more county residents obtained licenses for the rest of the year. New licenses required October 1. Dove season then runs November 20 to January 31. quail season from November 20 to February 21, per probate office staff.

Man Dies After Gunshot Wounds in Dothan Hospital

Willie Clark, 25, of Shortervile, Alabama, died Saturday at a Dothan hospital after being shot during a dispute in Shorterville. Hospital staff said he sustained multiple gunshot injuries to the back and upper body. Several others were reported injured in the incident.

Miami observers reported a tropical disturbance moving through the Bahamas 140 miles southeast of Nassau and about 600 miles off Miami. William Bottoms Dies in Hospital at 38

William B Bottoms 38 died in a Dothan hospital around 2 a m from typhoid fever. Born in Dale County he moved to Dothan and was a World War II veteran in the grocery business. Mutiny fears after car collision injures six marines

Six injured marines and others were hurt when a car crashed into a truck on the Bee Line highway near Ozark. The driver said the car, after overnight travel, veered into the rear of the truck as pedestrians were being picked up. Injuries included a cut artery, possible eye damage, and multiple lance wounds. The car and truck suffered heavy damage and were towed to a nearby garage. Meanwhile, sailors refuse to dock at ports other than Rotterdam as mutiny fears rise aboard the Rotterdam liner. Thirty six marines were dispatched to counter the crew.

Resident of New Providence Half a Century Passes

Mrs Pope aged 87 died at her home near New Providence Church after years of declining health. A longtime New Providence resident, she is survived by two sons and a daughter. Councilman Botts Arrested on Embezzlement Indictments

Councilman John P. Botts was arrested today on two indictments charging embezzlement while employed by Tennessee Grain Co. of Nashville. Bonds totaling 600 dollars were posted. Indictments allege misappropriations of 78 dollars and related funds, with Bloomfield grand jury returning the charges after long delay. Botts had been councilman of Ward Two since 1922 and faced questions over his role with the grain company and prior political activity.
