Army of 111 500 polices Federal Crop Adjustment
Abington Sept 3 AP and tanks of farmers who hold guest official positions in the enforcement of the AAA major crop adjustment programs have run a total of 111,500. A still greater number expected to be added as the administration proceeds with the potato control program. About 10,000 former state and local committee members, 76,000 corn hog members, 25,000 cotton committee members and tiny tobacco committees supervise quotas, enforce contracts, inspect farmers and report compliance. Committeemen are paid daily, 3 to 4 dollars, not fulltime federal employees, and payments come from benefit checks to farmers after local administrative expenses are deducted. Officials say further rate reductions hinge largely on farmers. The broader plan for potato control awaits further development.

Ethiopian Aide Office to Extend Field Program
Washington officials said under John Hutson the organization will extend into the field with local farmer committees to set quotas. The potato program will be a tax adjustment rather than a voluntary government contract approach, and success will depend on the farmers themselves.
