Kiwanis Club Prepares for District Convention

At a regular meeting the Kiwanis Club outlined plans for the Alabama district convention to be held November 9 and 10 at the Houston hotel. Arthur Joe Grant is new secretary. Myer Blumberg hosted guests including Dr. Clement Ritter and Dr. Edward A. Landau. Roy Driggers and M. P. Womack attended with a cornet duet. W. E. McRae named to the attendance committee.

Big Crowd Attends Pansey Church Sing

A large crowd gathered at Friendship Church in Pansey for a Sunday memorial sing in honor of Yate Thomas M. Morgan. An AP report from Broken Bow details a bank heist at the McCurtain County bank where two unmasked bandits robbed the institution of about $4000. A getaway vehicle was used and the third conspirator fled the scene. Police pursued the suspects.

Embezzlement Confession Reported At Continental Bank

Walter Wolf, 43, longtime employee of Continental Dnols Bank & Trust Co, is said to have confessed to embezzling funds allegedly totaling up to 2 million dollars, with estimates ranging from 1.5 to 2.01 million. He reportedly admitted defalcations spanning about 12 years and was held in custody at a hotel.

Mobile adopts a new voting system to be used on September 14 as voters choose a car commissioner to fill the seat left vacant by retirement. US Deficit Rises in 64 Days of New Fiscal Year

In the first 64 days of the new fiscal year the United States ran a deficit of 396 million 365 thousand dollars. Treasury officials noted that two months earlier the previous year closed with a 900 thousand dollar shortfall that was covered by an increase in public debt. President Hoover and aides studied the numbers to decide whether to advocate tax increases or another bond issue.

Spanish War veterans from other camps plan to attend the Dothan U S W camp meeting Friday night at the court house. Final plans for the New Orleans convention will be made. About twenty five from Dothan are expected to travel to the national conclave. Delegates may depart Dothan early Saturday by ACL train, with some driving by car, to reach New Orleans for the five day gathering. New members announced include Charles F. Forester Advises Mining Firms To Produce Timber

MONTGOMERY AP Mining companies may ratee as well as dig for wealth Col Page S. Bunker state forester recommends to mining companies the raising of timber as a source of revenue. Mining operations require large quantities of small size forest products such as props tires capboards spray and rock dump poles rollers and all lumber for mine tippler bine buildings houses mine cars and other purposes. The greater portion of forest products suitable for mining use can be best utilized from trees too small for profitable time for poles piling or saw tinder. Proper management of timber lands reduces the cost of the timber consumed in mining operations, adds to the capital value of the property and increases the company earnings.

Death of Dothan boy From a foot splinter

Eight year old James Wade Byers of Dothan died after tetanus developed from a splinter on his foot. He was hurt playing on his porch a week earlier. Funeral held at Headland Avenue Baptist Church. Survived by parents, a brother and two sisters. Burial in city cemetery.

Birmingham Men Fly To City In Plane

Two Birmingham men, Nelson Hurey and Jack Rhodes of Birmingham, representatives of an automobile parts company, visited the Dothan Auto Parts Co plant during a tour of auto parts plants in Alabama, Florida, and Georgia. They flew from Birmingham past Selma and Birmingham, then to Andalusia and planned to proceed to Pensacola, Florida, and Mississippi before returning. Their 939 horsepower Bird plane carried them on the journey.

Trial date set for Dr James A Campbell in Dothan

Circuit court criminal docket opens Tuesday with Dr James A Campbell scheduled for trial September 14 on a charge of attempted assault against a young girl from a prominent family. Campbell, a baby physician, surrendered to the sheriff and was jailed on a 25 000 bond after the charge was upgraded to attempted assault. The grand jury indicted him last week and renewed the 5 000 half bond. Relatives of the girl swore out the warrants.
