Growers Protest Tobacco Prices in Eastern North Carolina
In Edgecombe county a mass meeting of tobacco growers and merchants launched a boycott against manufactured tobacco products to press for fair prices. The pledge calls for boycotting tobacco products until livable prices are paid and plans to cut tobacco acreage by 25 percent for 1951. Confessed forger leads to murder discovery in Baltimore
In Baltimore a former employee admitted forging H G Wetterms name triggering discovery of Wetterms body in a barrel at his chemist shop. Wetterms throat was cut and death likely two weeks earlier. Kennard Thompson 16 confessed to forging a 597 dollar check to buy an automobile in Wetterms name and two smaller checks. He also allegedly stole 143 dollars from the safe and sold the strongbox to a junk man. Four other youths aged 15 to 19 were arrested and questioned about their ties to Thompson and Wetterms.
