State Prison Commission Bill Adversed

Montgomery Aug 31 The bill creating a state prison commission was adverse by the Senate Committee on prisons and punishment. The measure passed the house after a lively contest, and the house voted to elect three members by the people to replace the present convict board. The adverse report was returned in the Senate Tuesday morning.

The Alabama Senate voted 13 to 8 to table a Lewis amendment adding a ten cent tax on liquor shipments entering the state. Senator Lewis defended the move while Senator Lusk condemned liquor traffic and warned against any license bill that would legalize it.
