Five Women Of Houston County To Attend State Council Meet

A Houston County delegation of five women will travel to Biloxi Mississippi for the State Home Demonstration Council meeting held with the Alabama Farm Bureau November 2. Members Mrs BEJ Whiddon Mrs W A Womack Mrs Billy Beckham Mrs Bowman and Mrs C W Hughes plus Miss Fran Mallette will represent the county and compete in dress revue sport dress and work outfit contests. The group returns Wednesday night.

Washington (UP) The 1948 campaign ended with signals it was the costliest in U.S. history. Major parties and groups spent hundreds of thousands, with totals near 25 million. The Republican Committee reported 2 097 287 spent by Oct 27, the Democratic 1 674 760, plus other major party and labor expenditures. In New York City the Metropolitan Republican Finance Committee had 64 13 spent, Pennsylvania 937 234, AFL 270 819, CIO 106 832. Most labor money supported Democrats seeking repeal of TaftHartley.
