Alabama Senate Delays Goode Measure on Warrant Financing

The Alabama Senate finance and taxation committee postponed the Goode general appropriation bill to seek consideration of the Goode warrant issuance measure for refinancing the state floating debt. The Goode bill later earned a second reading and calendar placement for passage as the House passed the Parker bill allowing counties to fund teachers’ salaries from the treasury. The Poole gasoline tax bill passed the House 53 to 32, with safeguards for counties if the 1931 tax allocation is ruled illegal.

Mayor Ezell Rejects Four Amendments Limiting His Powers

Blakely Man Killed in Rotary Meeting Route Crash

Samuel R. Goings 67 of Blakely Georgia died from injuries after being struck by a car driven by Luther F. Warrick en route to a Dothan Rotary meeting. Warrick and two others witnessed the mishap. Alvin T. Fleming and C. A. Grubbs were in the car. Warrick swerved into a ditch to avoid Goings injuring Fleming slightly. Goings had stepped from a home front and apparently did not see the oncoming vehicle. He died during surgical exam in Blakely. He left a brother in Clay County.

Former Methodist Pastor Improves After Surgery in Montgomery

Dr. H. H. McNeill 8 formerly pastor of Foster Street Methodist Church in Dothan is recovering in a Montgomery hospital after an appendectomy. He is the father of S. Sellers McNeill who died last week in Marianna Florida and was buried Tuesday at Prattville. Dr. McNeill traveled to Marianna for his son’s illness then attended the funeral of Mrs. Maude Freeman in Dothan last Sunday.

Evangelist Elizabeth Barter of Birmingham who is conducting a revival at the Dothan Salvation Army Auditorium spoke at the Kiwanis club meeting Wednesday at the Houston hotel. Dr. J. A. Jail Held Awaiting JP Trial On Breach Of Peace

R L Dell is jailed in the county jail awaiting trial in Beat 14 justice of the peace court on a breach of the peace charge. He was arrested by county officers yesterday. One person was bondable on a liquor charge while two others were jailed in default of bond on the same accusations.

Seed loan terms in jail start for two men

Two men, Charles W. King and W. Jeff King of near Ashford, began 60 day jail sentences in Houston county jail in lieu of a $250 fine for seed loan violations. Others face fines or jail terms by Nov 15 and Dec 25, including Coy Thompson Joe Whaley R Leo Espy and W J Bell with fines ranging from $250 to $300. The King brothers expect release on Christmas Day.

Possum Hunters Fire Destroys T. G. Pippin Home

Returning from a possum hunt, men at the T. G. Pippin home ten miles southwest of Dothan started a stove fire to warm up. A defective flue caused a blaze that consumed the eight room house and most contents, with $1,000 coverage. Mr. Pippin, a large landowner in Rehobeth, reported the fire quickly.
