Porter’s Wiener Roast Hosts Woolworths Local Employees

The W F Woolworth and Co employees held a Tuesday wiener roast at Porter's with games and contests before and after. Attendees included J C Anthony, Mr and Mrs J T Kelly, W G Hullo and family, Mre HH Conk, Miss Mary Loflin, and others, plus several young guests. Also noted Betty Canall Ward birthday celebration at 4001 Lafayette Street with Halloween decor and games, plus a Sunday School Class wiener roast at First Baptist Church hosted by Mesiam Maids with multiple attendees and a trip to Brannon Stand for supper.

Red Cross Disaster Relief Across 38 States in 1920 21

The American Red Cross aided disasters in 38 of 48 states in the year ending June 29 1921 amid droughts floods storms and fires. Over two million people were fed clothed or aided. funds included public gifts surpassing 10 million dollars and a 5 million dollar Red Cross appropriation.

Business and Professional Women's Club Meets Tuesday

The regular meeting of the Business and Professional Women's Club was held in the Houston hotel ladies parlor with Miss Lucille Willis presiding. Friends of Miss Erline Cuttee will regret her illness at Mrs A B Blount's home on 201 N Lena street. A tea for delegates to the State Nurses Association was planned for Saturday afternoon. The program featured Ideals of the Membership Committee Milas Chapman Report of National Membership Committee by Ellen Libby Eastman and a playlet Introducing Our National Officers. Ten Year Objective Program Set For Next Meeting

Ex Cowarts Teacher’s Poems Published by New York Firm

Former Cowartan teacher 1912 13 5 J Willingham has a poetry volume accepted by a New York publishing company. Hoboes Escape After Pile Work Assignment

In Birmingham on October 28, 17 vagrants were sent to labor on a municipal slag pile after a sweep against hoboes. They scattered as soon as they viewed the work. 16 escaped, one was recaptured. The report also notes South Dakota has 83,154 farms averaging 439 acres.
