Heflin Gives No Answers to Houston Democratic Panel Questions
Senator Heflin faced a Houston County Democratic gathering and refused to answer a list of pointed questions printed on yellow circulars. He dismissed the flurry of papers, calling them dirty, and tossed the sheet away, while critics pressed for names and affiliations of members accused of being Raskobites, Tammanyites, liquorites, or Catholic-influenced. The crowd sought clarity on party divides and Heflin’s vote on liquor and prohibition issues, including the Webb-Kennon bill and the 18th Amendment.
