Police say a patron, described as a negro man aligned with Republican equality rhetoric, entered the Acme barbershop on Saturday night and was struck with a chair by owner M. Carswell after being told to remove his hat. Carswell claimed the intruder made impudent remarks and refused orders, leading to the altercation and the patron being removed from the shop.
Sheriff Rollins reports eight drunks and two alleged gamblers jailed Sunday along with Will Wingate for unlawful use of a weapon and Hubert McArdle for striking his father. One man was held for carrying a concealed pistol, Slim Tiler and Norman Williams charged with gaming, John Faulk of Granger charged with concealing pistol.
Atlanta Oct. 22. Parents and friends were notified today of the death this morning in New York of Frances Newman Atlanta novelist and author of The Hard Boiled Virgin Her death attributed to cerebral hemorrhage.
Hubert McArdle 22 struck his father with a shotgun barrel during a Saturday argument, knocking him unconscious. He reportedly was intoxicated, married with one child, and held on assault and battery while drunk in Beat 2. Sheriff Rol Via reports no serious injury to the father.
Mrs. Mollie Anderson sues Bay Line Railway Co for 2900 in damages arising from the Cottondale wreck of 1928 in which several died and many injured. The case, filed in the local court, could go to the Supreme Court if not settled, with 22 additional claimants awaiting action.
George W. Pilcher, 62, long time Dothan resident and former Pitcher Gin operator, died at his Atlanta home after a brief illness. Funeral plans set for Dothan with Rev H C Basa and Rev A E Shafer officiating. survivors include wife, two sons, three daughters, two sisters, three brothers, and extended relatives.

Will Wingate a painter at the Kimeon building and friend Mare Tand borrowed a car Saturday night. They rode around Morland, parked the vehicle at a hotel, and drove for personal pleasure. Police arrested Wingate Sunday morning for unlawful taking. he confessed to being drunk and said he did not leave the city.
