Wheeler Dam area becomes Joe Wheeler State Park
The state takes 2 200 acres around Wheeler Dam and Wheeler Village from TVA under a lease signed September 22. The park will initially lack funds for major improvements, with future development planned for white and colored facilities, sports fields, and a nine hole golf course. The move marks northwest Alabama’s first state park and ties to regional land gifts including Cuntersville Reservoir and Fort Morgan.
