Walter Carter of the National Reemployment Office announced that veterans with honorable discharges from Civil War era to World War I are eligible for preference on government jobs in Houston county. The office will oversee hiring for the Ashford to Alaga road paving project.
Joe Caffey aged 45 of Malvern died after several months illness. He is survived by his widow and five children Curtis Alma Effie and Lena all of Malvern. Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. from Pan ner Creek Church with Dowling Rhodes Funeral Home in charge.
Charles A. McKeand of Tampa presents a preliminary prospectus on a municipal gas plant for Dothan. The report to the city lights and water committee explains how federal Emergency Public Works funds could assist construction of a publicly owned gas utility. Continued on page four.
Fully three score Dothan residents including city officials and NRA loyalty leaders attended the NRA parade in Montgomery on October 26. Mayor I. C. Ezell and W. C. Lokey led the local delegation in chartered buses and private cars, with banners proclaiming Dothan representation.
Miss Lillian Wells 31 and Sam J. Cleeton 36 were found shot to death in a San Antonio hotel. Police say Wells planned to meet a Kansas City attorney to end their friendship. A pearl-handled revolver inscribed From Chief Sibley to S. J. Cleeton lay near him. Cleeton had just returned from Laredo where his company had holdings.
Gov. Alf M. Landon called a special session of the Kansas Legislature to convene October 20 for relief and liquor legislation and to investigate alleged forgery of Kansas municipal bonds.
A Topeka firefighter watched a salesman ignite gasoline near the fire station. Chief Cawker called for the firehouse equipment as flames reached the doors, and no sale resulted from the demonstration.
The public is invited to attend part of the district Alabama Educational Association convention here Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. City Superintendent C. C. Moseley announced. About 400 teachers from nine counties including Houston and Geneva will attend, with city schools such as Dothan and Eufaula represented. The session will discuss school finances and near term outlook.
North Dakota railroads ignored Governor Tanger's wheat embargo order as the adjutant general prepared to halt shipments. Officials said national guardsmen would be mobilized to enforce the mandate, with guard companies dispatched to cited violations.
Albert H. Wiggin former chairman of Chase National Bank told Senate investigators his family bought bank stock in 1928 through a pool run by Chase officials. He said the family acquired 1160 shares while the pool earned about 50000 in profit as stock gained about 100 points during the operation.
In Birmingham Alabama on October 19 194 field notes seven year old Jimmy Ogle saved his two year old brother Billy from a fire at an open grate. He shoved him to the door rolled him to smother the flames and cried for help. Father Orlando Ogle arrived and praised Jimmy then he went to school with sore hands.
The Wesleyan Union of six Methodist churches will convene Friday at 7:30 p.m. at Headland Church. Representatives from Midland City Sylvan Grove New Lebanon Headland Dothan La Fayette and Foster Street will attend. All members of the departments are invited to attend.
Carroll B. Merriam of Topeka Kansas appointed by the president to head the Deposit Liquidation Board. The board directs assets from closed banks nationwide to release deposits, with Merriam serving as entruster to aid banks as part of the Reconstruction Finance Corporation effort.
Maryland Governor Ritchie demands an immediate probe into the Armwood lynching after he was dragged from the jail and hanged near the town. He blames Judge Robert F. Duer and State's Attorney John B. Robins for responsibility and orders action to apprehend those involved. Armwood had been returned from Baltimore to face assault charges against an elderly white woman.
Auditor J. L. Vaughn says August payroll warrants could be redeemed before due if privilege license collections recover. He notes most warrants this year have been called early, with July warrants already paid ahead of maturity. Two more issues, one in August and one in September, remain at risk.
At Jacksonville request, J J Fontanna who had been held on requisition papers was denied habeas corpus and sent to Florida yesterday. He faces robbery warrants for allegedly attacking a truck driver in Jacksonville and taking more than $700.
Parade committee seeks at least ten trucks for Moats in the NRA parade to be used for decoration. Truck owners should contact Harry Hal, committee chairman, with decorations due by Tuesday.

Prof Albert Einstein arrives in Princeton to study laboratories linked with Dr Abraham Flexner's institute. University officials say Einstein will not permit official photos, and the stay centers on his research this winter in the quiet university town.

The small freighter Alfonso Ficer bound for Alicante from Aviles sank off Cape Tourtana after an explosion. The crew were saved in small boats. The cause of the blast is unknown.
