The Malone Cotton Company was sold to Weil Brothers for eight thousand bales yesterday, transferring ownership amid active trading in cotton futures and regional market shifts. The deal signals consolidation in the local cotton sector and potential impact on nearby gins and merchants.
Malone Cotton Company of this city sold eight thousand bales to Weil Brothers, the largest cotton transaction in Alabama in years and possibly the South. About 500000 in value, much of the stock carried over from last season with most bought this season. Houston county’s crop this year is shorter than past years.

In a morning incident near Ashford, David Shackleford, a negro, shot and wounded another man in the dark. A shotgun was used. Deputies Alex and Tatuuitis May went to Ashford to investigate but found the shooter had fled. The wounded man was serious but not fatally hurt.

A man named Nathan Andemson and two others, living on North Lena’s Treat, were arrested this morning by County Sheriffs Hornaby and Alex May on charges of violating prohibition laws. They reportedly found over three quarters of something in the home of a Black resident. The trio was jailed.
