The show opens with a band concert directed by Gay A Rimert, Sonny Harris hosts, and judges decide as 12 contestants are eliminated. Prizes go to Miss Malone, Miss May, and Miss Ward, with proceeds benefiting the high school band.
In New Orleans early trading for cotton futures fell as traders realized gains and hedged positions. At noon the market showed declines from ten to twenty cents a bale with Oct and Dec futures leading the drop and new front-month figures around the low 31 cent range.
Cotton futures in New York steadied after an initial decline as short covering and mill buying absorbed limited offerings. By late afternoon, most contracts posted gains with December at 31.20, March 31.00, and May 30.75 per bale.

Kelley said the youth possessed several blank checks and a traced tied check while Harper claimed he forged no more than one check.
