In Wetumpka the Otis Goodher murder case stretched to 16 hours of deliberation with no verdict. The jury failed to reach a verdict after a lengthy session, as prosecutors urged the death penalty for Goocher while defense claimed he was framed. Penny Cans Opened in Houston County Net $21.59

Penny cans for needy children in Houston County were opened for the first time this season after being replaced in Dothan stores over a month ago. The receptacle at Blumberg and Sons led with a $2.74 donation, Foster Street A. and P. gave $2.23, and Vieese Ennis contributed $1.21. Funds support improvements for needy children across the county.

Dothan residents drink between 600 and 700 gallons of milk daily, with about 20 000 gallons consumed monthly. Fifteen dairies, all in Houston County and near Dothan, supply the city’s large milk needs.

15 Cases Disposed of In Geneva Court

The circuit court adjourned here Thursday after disposing of 15 cases. The docket mainly involved paying assessments in Samson and was continued to the next session. The county grand jury reported 14 true bills nine felonies and five misdemeanors.

New Pews Installed At Church in Geneva

In Geneva on October 15, new pews were installed at the Methodist church along with the completed church structure. The project marks a sustained effort by church members especially the women's missionary society after a 1929 flood and a 1930 fire, with pews stored in an armory hall later burned in a separate blaze. Borrowed chairs had served in the interim.

Gov B M Miller signed the Edgar bill levying a three cent pint tax on near beer. One third of county revenue goes to the collecting county while the rest funds the educational trust. Funeral for Former Haleburg Resident Conducted Today

The funeral of Thomas P. Chambers, 63, of Birmingham and former Haleburg resident, who died in Birmingham from a stroke, was held at 11 a.m. at Haleburg Baptist Church with Rev. Theo Harris officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery. Survivors include sons A. J. and O. T. Chambers of Birmingham and daughters Thelma Chambers of Birmingham and Mrs. H. C.
