A special grand jury may be convened to probe allegations that tenant farmer Cherley Taylor gave a moonshine jar to children in a Hale County cotton patch, leading to the death of six year old Fletcher Sellers. Soldier sends home Goering children photo in Germany
Pfc. Dowald Kirkland of Graceville route two mailed a photo of himself with Hermann Goering’s children and two unidentified soldiers to his mother Mrs. J. J. Kirkland. He said to keep the picture safe as the children were Goering’s. He also sent a Reichsmarschal castle photo with no town name. Kirkland has been in service since May 1944 and overseas since November, with the 5th Infantry Division of the Third Army in Germany. His brother Oliver Clifford Kirkland serves with the 29th Division in Bremen, Germany.

Airmail Stamp Sales Boosted in Dothan
Direct airmail service from Dothan via Eastern Airlines spurs a rise in sight cent airmail stamp sales at the Dothan post office. Assistant postmaster John Bell said servicemen buy more airmail stamps than civilians, noting increased air mail usage and heavier mailing by service personnel. Local businessmen are using the added facility, Bell added.
