Former Alabama Senator Jordan Loses Appeal on Bribe Sentence

Elmer D. Jordan of Atalla loses final appeal to Alabama Supreme Court and must begin a two to two and a half year prison term within 15 days. The case marked the first time an Alabama legislator was sentenced for misconduct while in office after soliciting $250 for a Sunday movies bill. Jordan denied the charge, claiming the money was for expense related to the bill. Governor Miller testified that Jordan admitted asking for the money. Jordan resigned during the Senate investigation, which continued and produced a condemning report. He is to be processed at Kilby prison upon reporting.
