City committees named by Ezell with Martin and Bates in key roles

Council President W. F. Martin and I. C. Bates head five committees each and chair two. T. H. McEntyre serves on one committee, the cemetery panel. The mayor’s list includes Finance, Educational, Water and Light, Municipal Building, Street, Building and Property, Purchasing, Cemetery, Fire Department, Police, and Sanitary with chairs named. Bates sought to reject the slate, but city attorney O. S. Lewis ruled the mayor’s appointments stand under ordinance.

Mrs Tatum Still Unconscious After Train Fall

Mrs. M Tatum wife of former Sheriff Menefee Tatum remained unconscious in a hospital after a fall from a moving Central of Georgia train Monday night. A hospital X ray showed no skull fracture but doctors described her condition as serious as she remained unconscious through the afternoon.

Two Negroes Slug Georgia Man and Assault His Wife

Web ster county officers said two Negroes, Charlie Green and Paschal Baker, slugged a Webster county man unconscious and assaulted his wife while she slept. The pair were taken to Bibb county jail for safekeeping and previously sentenced at Preston to die in the electric chair on October 28. The crime was committed three miles from Preston at midnight August 12.

Lehman Family Ties in Alabama Politics and Business

The Lehman family built the Alabama Warehouse once a major hub and ran Lehman Abraham in New Orleans. They stayed politically quiet until 1894 when Grover Cleveland ran, Mayer Lehman visited Montgomery yearly, and Adolph Lehman, a cotton broker, is noted as deceased. Blonde Sentenced in Dance Slaying

Grace Goode, 19, was found guilty of first degree manslaughter and sentenced to 10 years for the February dance hall slaying of Mrs. Margaret Allen, 19, mother of two. Jurors deliberated under four hours as prosecutors described her as brazen and the defense portrayed her as churchgoing.

300 C. E. S. Members Expected To Attend Annual Convention

Dixie Money Crop To Be On Exhibit In Birmingham

The Dixie money crop of cotton will be showcased in Birmingham from October 15 to early December. The exhibit covers cotton uses from coarse canvas to Egypt and Orient fabrics, modern weaving, and byproducts. Sing at Enterprise Church Draws Crowd

A Sunday afternoon sing at Enterprise church drew many singers. Ten participated in 12 songs across two lessons. Lester Knight, H. O. Guy, J. H. Farm Holiday Death Highlights Minnesota Picket Line

Nordahl Peterson a 25 year old farmer was shot and killed near a picket station as Minnesota farm holiday protests spread. Fred Hacker was fired upon but escaped uninjured, and two men fled in a car after the attack. Police indicated no link between the shooting and the plant picketing.
