Former Sheriff's Wife Hurt After Train Fall

Mrs. M. Tatum wife of a former Houston county sheriff was hospitalized in Dothan with a head injury after a fall from a Central of Georgia railway train last night. She was unconscious after striking her head on the ground and surgeons feared a fractured skull though X rays were pending. Her daughter in law Mrs. Fred Tatum continued to Albany, Ga. believing her mother in law only slightly hurt.

Snow Grips Colorado and Wyoming Amid north wind

A chill north wind swept across eastern Colorado and Wyoming with light snow reported in Cheyenne Casper and Laramie. Temperatures dropped to 28 degrees near Sherman Hill west of Cheyenne as Denver saw snowfall this afternoon. Forecasts warned of rain or snow in Pueblo Colorado Springs and Palmer Lake as skies remained unsettled.

Anti tax meeting scheduled for October 8 in Houston County

A county wide gathering of citizens opposed to state tax increases is planned for October 8 at 2 PM in the Houston County Courthouse. J T Jackson chairs the Economy League of Alabama event which will explain state financial issues and review proposed revenue bills income tax amendment and a $20,000,000 bond issue amendment with an Open Forum for public opinions.

Houston County commissioners plan a 1933 budget matching expected revenue. Commissioner Carl Burkett says all should review the tax assessor books before drafting the budget. They aim to trim overhead as revenues are expected to fall about 40 000 due to business declines and license drops.

Juror in Davis case fined after mistrial

Henry Moore, the juror who caused a mistrial in the Davis lottery case, was fined 100 dollars or five days in jail. His name was stricken from the jury list after he approached defense counsel during a nearly two week hearing and expressed remorse saying he was sorry and did not mean to harm anyone.

Cotton Goods Plants Hiring 879 Workers To Move to Alabama

MAYS LANDING N J Oct 4 AP Announcement of the proposed removal to Northern Alabama of the Mays Landing Water Power Company and the Millville NJ Manufacturing Company jointly run for cotton goods has been made by Charles H Kears superintendent of the former plant. No date set for the move. Economic conditions necessitate the shift resulting in the loss of 650 jobs in Millville and 218 in Mays Landing.

Tenant houses razed by Arkansas tornado near Pine Bluff

A tornado ripped through the Tru jock plantation area north of Pine Bluff injuring no one, razing uncoupled and unrenfed cotton tenant houses, and damaging several farm buildings. Trees blocked multiple roads and some residents escaped narrowly.

Gale Fire Destroys Town In 15 Mile Front

A 45 mph gale drove a forest fire along a 15 mile front through Oregon coast range, killing one man, wiping out the mill town of Enright after residents were evacuated by train, and destroying property valued at about a million dollars. About 25 firefighters were missing as 300 on the firing line retreated under threat.

Highway Director Seeks 10 Million For Alabama Roads

Langdon Smith told a joint legislature session Alabama needs 10 million dollars to maintain roads to match federal aid. Revenue, about half that, would require a 3.5 cent gasoline tax. He cited 5 million annual highway funds after Oct 1, 1982, with fixed charges at 3.4 million and maintenance needs of federal and state roads totaling over 4.8 million. He warned two more winters could finish the roads without rehabilitation.

Convictions in County Court Over License Charges

Judge H. K. Martin convicted two individuals for operating slot planos without a license and fined $10.42, with appeals filed to the circuit court. The alleged owners named were Mrs. J. B.
