Pay at Last for Teachers of This State

Public school teachers in Alabama received funds to help cover salaries. The state comptroller announced that 608,900 was released to the department of education and the remainder to the university system and four teachers colleges, under a new budget control law. The four teachers colleges will each receive over 7,000.

Fainting Victim in Serious Condition After Rain

Alonzo Weeks, 35, of Samson, believed ill with pneumonia after fainting in a downtown store during heavy rain Monday. He was hospitalized and then taken to the Salvation Army home. authorities said he had come to town to seek work as a cook.

Four Women Die in Auto Train Collision at Greendale

Four women were killed in a collision between a car and a train at a Greendale crossing near Richmond Virginia. The victims are Grace Lane 40 EF R Metz 30 Mary Stone 17 and A H Henley 43 all of Laurel Virginia. An investigation was opened to determine the cause of the crash at the level crossing with good visibility.

Rally of Democrats At Chinley Saturday

CHIPLEY Fla November 3 A Democratic rally will be held here Saturday with Wash county Democratic executive committee members announcing the day’s program. Norman Thomas, Socialist presidential candidate, will not vote as he did not register. He campaigned in Utah, Wyoming, Colorado and Kansas during registration week. Solicitor Cleared in Arson Charge in Alabama

A Tuscaloosa jury after 20 minutes acquitted Solicitor Ed Degraffenreid of arson in a fire at his home on September 18. Degraffenreid testified he denied all charges and said Sidney James, the state's principal witness, held a grudge against him. James later testified they were friendly and he had been offered money and a job to burn the home.

Davis Will Head Red Cross Drive in Houston County

Dr. Dupree Davis will lead the Houston County Red Cross campaign with J H Bryson as chapter chair. The target is 1250 members, about three percent of Alabama’s 80,000 statewide membership. Condition of Hon. B. G. Farmer, Sr. Reported Serious

The 74 year old Hon. B. G. Farmer, Sr. is in serious condition after an automobile wreck last Tuesday night. Doctors report no broken bones or internal injuries but his advanced age and low reserve energy mean he is gradually sinking. He was returning from a fishing trip to Dead Lakes, Florida, with neighbor Dr. H. Green when the car driven by a Negro chauffeur overturned after hitting a cow.
