Elephant Dreams and a Meeting with Sloan in 1946
Billy Rose recalls pitching a WORLD'S FAIR ON WHEELS idea to General Motors chairman Alfred P. Sloan in an Atlanta era tale. He proposed a county-sized show with an aquatic act and a Madison Square Garden sized tent, offering five years rent relief and GM exclusive display for a hundred elephants. Sloan shared tales of Barnum and Bailey, hinting he would back the elephants, though the plan never materialized. The piece ends with a note that rival impresarios later launched a larger show.
