The young J N Blaum arrived in Dothan forty years ago driving an iron gray mare and a buggy. He found a fast changing town with auctions, fights and shootings, as the ACL railway boosted growth. He then spent $200 on a street sign to smarten the storefront, but drunks shot the sign's structure about 100 times that night.
