Russians Rout Chinese Troops in Manchuria

Soviet forces seized Khalar and the western stretch of the Khingan range as Manchuria battles raged. Jury probe into Avant slaying begins today

A Geneva Alabama grand jury opened today to investigate the September death of Pro Claude F Avant of Slocomb. Witness Lez Phillips testified that Dr C W Smith hired him to kill Avant for unpaid money, with Phillips striking him in the schoolhouse and Smith stabbing him. Lookouts James and Brown were named and the body was moved to a paint near Bonifay.

Death ends long career of Senator Warren of Wyoming

Senator Francis E. Warren of Wyoming dies at 82 after a three week illness. President Hoover led national tribute as Warren, longest serving Wyoming senator, is remembered for industry and national welfare work on the appropriations committee. He died with his wife, son Fred, and son in law General John J Pershing at his bedside. Funeral planned in the Senate chamber with delegations to Wyoming.

Plans to Bring Shoals Problem to Settlement

Chattanooga Tenn November 25 Senator W E B Brock outlined a drive to bring the Moocone Shoal and Tennessee river development to the fore. He said a meeting with General Lytel Brown and other lawmakers could occur around December 12 with the local chamber of commerce hosting. The plan aims to mobilize state leaders to urge action in Congress and across Tennessee and Cumberland regions.

Navy Pilot Dies Testing British Bristol Bulldog

Lieutenant George T. Cuddihy, a veteran navy pilot, was killed when the Bristol Bulldog he tested crashed from a 10 000 foot dive at Anacostia. The plane plowed nose first into the ground as visibility was poor. Cuddihy, born 1896 in Alto Michigan, set a 1924 seaplane speed record and flew in the Schneider Cup race before joining the aviation service in 1917.

Five men charged in Arkansas slaying and assault

Mountain View Arkansas November report says five men including Hermann Greenway and Hubert Hester were arrested in connection with the March 10 killing of Connie Franklin and the attempted marriage assault on his 16 year old sweetheart in St James. Prosecutors say the group tortured Franklin and burned his body after seizing the couple on a mountain road. A judge says a December 16 special circuit session will hear the case.

Jefferson Man Shot to Death in Alabama Incident

Byrd Gantt was shot to death after an altercation at Hugh Bailey’s residence in Jefferson County. Bailey surrendered to the sheriff in Bessemer and will be joined by investigators for today’s inquest. Gantt, a boarder, reportedly threatened Mrs Bailes before Bailey used his gun, four shots killing Gantt.
