Paris AP report states British author P G Wodehouse was arrested on charges of aiding Germans through Berlin broadcasts in 1941. His wife was held briefly, then released. Embassies negotiatied, and he was expected to be released upon leaving France.
L G Nichola county FSA supervisor announced a tenant purchase sale of an 80 acre tract three and a half miles south of Ashford. The farm was bought with Bankhead Jones Tenant Purchase Act funds. This marks the 92nd loan closed under Houston County FSA since 1938.
George B. Duke fined in a prohibition case after a meeting at Dothan with beer dealers aiding a bond drive. Deputy J. T. Casey led enforcement. Duke pleaded guilty and was taken into custody. Two Camp Rucker soldiers Melvin Evans and Joseph Clabot faced vagrancy charges after a theft report in Headland. Captain Wm. C. H. Dawsey of Dothan, parents in Birmingham, earned the Bronze Star for meritorious service in action in North Africa Sicily and Italy from 12 1943 to 1 1944. Major General Geoffrey Keyes presented the award. Dawsey led a Fifth Army field artillery battery now in action on the Gothic Line and also holds the Purple Heart. He entered the Army in 1939 after graduating from Alabama Polytechnic Institute. His battery has logged the most combat hours among U S forces. He previously served at Fort Bragg. He is grandson of Ada F. Hodges of Headland and son of Mr and Mrs E P Dawsey of Birmingham.
Senator Chandler of Kentucky backed Barkley and warned that if the majority leader's amendment fails he will seek to strike the entire disputed section.

Corporal Colly R. Smith son of Mr and Mrs Robert Smith of DOT han route five is a member of the galloping ghost of the Allied Forces the Second Armored Division now operating in the First Army area somewhere in Germany announced by the Public Relations section today. Enlisting four years ago he trained at Fort Benning Ga with the Second Armored Division. He has participated in three campaigns North Africa Sicily and France. Overseas two years this Christmas he was a farmer before joining the Army.
