Chicago reports coal dealers acknowledge price increases from 25 to 50 cents per ton as supply in transit may not endure a sudden winter rush. Managers warn that stacked coal on rail lines could be exhausted within hours after the first snow flurries, prompting hurried deliveries.
New Orleans reports the Southern Cotton Association moved to curb selling by pledges signed by farmers naming their cotton and holding amounts.
