Freedom Looms For 1 000 Dry Law Violators

The move follows unofficial returns showing about 2 to 1 in favor of repeal. Authorities estimate 300 Wright violators in state prisons and 700 in county jails. The plan targets violators not guilty of beyond Wright Act violations. The repeal provoked widespread shifts as cities moved to stop liquor raids and wineries prepared to sell legally. Regulatory and historic ordinances on liquor date to 1858, leaving questions about which remain in effect. Ohio Governor George White, vacationing in New York, says beer legalization should curb racketeering and be considered in light of reason.
