Kiwanis Alabama district Governor Leroy Holt urged clubs to boost a statewide community betterment program. He proposed a Get Acquainted movement and focus on recreation centers vocational guidance and safety. He urged clubs to cooperate with public agencies and form a district secretary and active field staff.

Supplying Wood To City Residents Brings Cash Money

Auburn Alabama November 8 AP Austout heart and a sharp axe In the woods this winter will harvest another cash crop for the Alabama farmer as city residents send up a cry for firewood. Lyle Brown extension forester at Auburn lists directives to fuel gatherers: cut undesirable trees to improve forest, avoid selling sound timber, choose crooked or hollow trees for firewood, stack stove wood to season for better heating value, advertise in local papers to attract customers.

The Coe Brothers will stage a parade today at 5 p m on downtown streets of Dothan. The show arrived last night and opened today on Pilcher's lot East Main Street with a cowboy band and five new cages of animals added to the display.

Senator Norris of Nebraska proposed a three billion federal road program to address unemployment. He would finance the plan with a long term government bond issue and repay through higher income and estate taxes. The idea favors massive road building over charity as relief.

Fires in Dothan Destroy or Damage Homes and Store

Three fires were battled by the Dothan fire department yesterday with two in a central district. A dwelling occupied by African Americans on East Burdeshaws suffered $15 in damage from sparks on the roof. Tom Saliba’s home at 301 West Crawford Street was lightly damaged due to electrical insulation exposure. The Acorn store on Bart street burned after an explosion and gasoline was tossed inside, causing about $10 in damage before a truck started the fire.

A barn and its tin contents on Spann's farm about five miles from Dothan were destroyed by fire shortly after noon today. Loss estimated at 300 dollars. Three bales of cotton and a quantity of seed cotton were in the barn. neither the dwelling nor surrounding structures were damaged.

Civil Case Court Session Held Here

Circuit court opened this morning for a one day session to consider non-fury cases. Most time was spent arguing and many cases were struck from the docket for refusal. Deliberations were to be given this afternoon by Judge B A Sten rce. Jury civil cases will start near Monday with work aligned to the acever. criminal cases will be juried the following week.
