A 13 year old, Joseph Thomas Brock Jr., suffered paralysis in a right arm and leg following a football practice mishap on a vacant Bell street lot. He also had a cerebral hemorrhage but doctors reported slight improvement and possible recovery. He was taken to a local hospital by teammates after being initially ignored by a passing driver.

In a guarded St Paul courtroom four Touhy gang members Roger Touhy Gus Schaffer Willie Sharkey and Eddie McFaddan pleaded not guilty to kidnapping William Hamm Jr the St Paul millionaire and were ordered to stand trial the next day. The arraignment before Federal Judge M M Joyce lasted 15 minutes as heavily armed local county and Federal officers escorted them from jail.
More than a score of defendants are set to plead guilty before Judge E A Pearce in circuit court on November 20 to faces including dynamiting fish assault to murder. Trials follow on November 21 22 and 23. President Roosevelt announced expansion of the Federal Relief program to remove about 4,000,000 on relief. A Civil Works Administration will use 490 million dollars from public works funds to create part time jobs and move workers toward self sufficiency. Most are expected to be at work by December 1.
A. H. Miller and J. L. Leeroy were arrested for violating the prohibition law after county officers found a gallon of liquor in their possession. Sheriff Jor Rollina said the arrests occurred last night, with several others jailed for drunkenness.
President of the Association Against the Prohibition Amendment Jouett Shouse urged in Washington that large cities allow liquor by the drink without food to curb speakeasies. He condemned politicians claiming repeal gains, praised repealists, and cited endorsements from figures like Alfred E. Smith and James Wadsworth while noting postmaster general Farley and a Roosevelt telegram as factors in repeal.
The National Lumber Manufacturers Association reports October week ending Oct 2 shows production near a low since July 4, with 177,487,000 feet produced and shipments at 169,957,000 feet. Army Sergeant George W. Marvelle, 33, of Barksdale Army Air Field, was found dead by a bullet in a parked locked car about 12 miles south of Alexandria Louisiana. Coroner L. Calhoun ruled death by own action after examining the body. Marvelle's home was listed as Philadelphia and he had left the field four days earlier on a 90 day furlough.
New Orleans reports cotton gains as government crop estimate shows 13,100,000 bales, up 214,000 from prior. July futures reach 10.14 as market stays active, with ginnings at 10,461,000 and total production based on over thirty million acres at 208 pounds per acre. Alabama output placed at 985,090 bales with 461,000 bales ginned.
Fiorello LaGuardia, Independent Republican on the fusion ticket, defeats Tammany rival O'Brien and McKee amid disorder and strong urban support. Final mayoral tally shows LaGuardia 799,297 to O'Brien 540,421. McKee 56H. Farley hails voters as show of dissatisfaction with Democratic leadership in New York City.
A fall casualty, Floyd L. Snow, 25, of near Slocanh, suffered head lacerations and bruises while walking on the Montgomery highway several miles north of the city. He was rushed by ambulance to a local hospital and was expected to be released this afternoon.
Tommie Gray was arrested by city police and turned over to county authorities after being accused of stealing two truck tires from W. D. Austin. He faces grand larceny charges for selling the tires in Headland for 20 dollars.
Reports from Floyd and Knott counties recount five election day killings pushing Kentucky's total to 15. Floyd county saw two dead and three wounded, with Arthur Thompson dying after being shot yesterday. Clyde Clark, nephew of a magistrate candidate, was said to be surrendering. Louisville precincts reported 663 for repeal and 627 against.
The city council adjourned again after a resolution to close a small paying account. It was the second adjournment from the regular session, with a third meeting slated for 7 o clock tonight. Several councilmen hinted at upcoming legislation to be introduced, details undisclosed.
Funeral for 93 year old Judge J. A. Campbell a Confederate veteran was held at the home of his daughter Mrs B H Boyd in Hartford with burial in Hartford cemetery. The service was conducted by Fellows and Forrester and he was noted for roles as court clerk county judge and church figure.
